AI Gives You Words, Not Truth

AI Gives You Words, Not Truth

the obvious choice newsletter Oct 20, 2026

Get clear on your unique value. That's how you stand out, get chosen, and succeed.

I have to admit, I use AI. It's become a helpful tool in my day-to-day work.

Every tool has its limitations, though. When I tested it on my own ideas, it made me sound smart. But it wasn't capturing what I truly believed and what I was truly trying to teach.

AI can be helpful, but it can't deliver authenticity. There is only one you, and that is incredibly unique and valuable. Learn to speak that, and you'll experience more success and satisfaction in your life, business, and career.

AI Is Great With Words. But It Only Knows What's Already Been Said.

That's how it was designed. It's built on the words of others.

And there is only one you.

So you must declare your unique value and tell your authentic story. Then, and only then, will you stand out from everyone else and start to be chosen.

Only You Can Deliver the Truth

Declaring your unique value is hard. It's deeply personal, and it can be painful and uncomfortable. That's why it's tempting to lean on AI. AI can give you something that you'll like and that will sound great, but only you can deliver the truth about who you are and the value you bring. That truth is what everyone is truly seeking, especially in a world where fact and fiction are getting harder to tell apart.

What AI Can't Do

Here's what I've seen over and over.

AI gives people better words. It doesn't give them the authentic, differentiated truth underneath. And people can feel the difference.

Great Lines. Three Other Firms Had Them Too.

I was working with a consulting firm with amazing relationships in Silicon Valley. The CEO distrusts the need for marketing or branding. His success was built on personal relationships, so he believes AI can do the majority of the work. Every time he came to me with a great line, I could find three or four competitors using very similar lines. It got into a round robin where I finally and gracefully had to say, "I really wish you the best of luck, but I don't think I can help you."

What to Try This Week

If you have a journal, physical or digital, or a calendar, great. If not, take a piece of paper. Carry it with you this week. Each day, you have only one job. Write down something that's true about you that helped someone else.

At the end, you'll have seven different things where you made a difference. In there is that singular idea of how you help others and improve their lives, which is ultimately your or your business's unique value. You may not have the words down perfectly, but the idea will be there, and I promise you, the next steps become that much easier.

My Promise to You

If you hit a wall, I'm going to make you a personal offer. Reach out to me at [email protected]. Give me those seven lines, and we'll have a quick conversation, and I'll help you see your unique value.

I know you have something very unique and valuable to give. That's why I'm making this promise.

There is only one you. Learn to speak that. And with that newfound clarity, things will begin to change.

Great work gets you noticed. Clarity gets you chosen.

A great line won't get you chosen if three other firms have it too.

The leaders and businesses getting overlooked aren't doing bad work. They're doing great work the market can't repeat. Here's the test: if a stranger asked what you do, could you answer in one sentence that makes them say, "Oh, that makes sense — I can see why you're different"? If not, that's not a marketing problem. It's a clarity problem.

After working with hundreds of businesses and more than a thousand leaders, I built a scorecard that finds where a story breaks down. I call it the Clarity Score™.

5 questions, 10 minutes. Answer fast, and score what's true in the wild — what other people can repeat when you're not in the room. One number that shows you exactly where your story is breaking down, and what to fix first.

The number isn't a verdict. It's the starting point for becoming the Obvious Choice™ in your market.
